What is Scrapbooking?

Scrapbooking is a craft that involves art of preserving and embellishing photographs, cherished items and memorabilia in the form of a layout, book, box or card design. Scrapbooking draws on other papercrafting techniques and arts to create unique decorative elements and often contain journal entries or written descriptions to note the occasion! Traditionally, scrapbooking has allowed us to preserve memories for future generations, and it has gone through many reinventions through the years to appeal to new eras of crafters - today journaling and building planners and diaries is at peak popularity. While many people think of scrapbooks as tangible objects, many artists also create digital scrapbooks. Digital scrapbooks are saved in a digital format, but can be printed as professionally bound books. There are many different types of digital software that allow you to play with layouts without the labour of crafting by hand - different strokes for different folks!

What is Journaling?

Scrapbooks are generally focused around photos, whilst journals can contain photos they don't tend to be the main focus and are led by the creator's diary content! Journaling is more likely to feature more artistic mixed-media techniques such as water colouring, drawing and painting - with more merit towards freedom on the page. There's less structure in the journaling community, where as scrapbooking is more likely to be a set 12x12" layout.

Visual Journaling is a reflective process that involves exploring concepts, ideas, and thoughts visually in order to understand and create personal meaning. This also goes hand-in-hand with colouring for mindfulness - there are a world of possibilities out there to help you document your life journey.
