Your Guide to Double Knitting
Fall in love with colourwork by mastering the double knitting technique!
Cast on
With waste yarn, cast on using a provisional cast-on. Join to work in the rnd. With MC, knit 3 rnds.
Unpick provisional cast-on and place stitches onto a spare circular needle. Fold work with WS tog.
K1 from main circular needle, p1 from spare circular needle.
Repeat this step to the end of the row/rnd.
Put spare needle aside. All sts have now been cast on. Join CC and follow chart/written instructions.
To work an MC stitch
K1 in MC, bring both yarns to front of work.
P1 in CC, take both yarns to back of work.
To work a CC stitch
K1 in CC, bring both yarns to front of work.
P1 in MC, take both yarns to back of work.
Cast off
Using spare circular needle, slip knit sts onto main circular needle, slip purl sts onto spare circular needle.
With CC, purl 1 rnd on spare circular needle. Graft front and back sts using kitchener stitch.
