Yarn Circle
It's always fun to find out the stories behind our favourite shops, so we sat down for a quick chat with John from Heirs and Graces in Matlock.
What's your shop called? Is there a story behind the name?
Heirs & Graces. We started as an heirloom sewing/embroidery business and wanted a name that reflected our philosophy and projected an up-market image.
Where is your shop and what is the neighbourhood like?
The shop is in Darley Dale, near Bakewell in the beautiful Peak District. Heirs & Graces is in an old chapel that lends itself to an interesting and enjoyable experience. Although on the main A6 we have plenty of private parking for customers.
Who works at your shop?
Ann, who is the owner and who started the business over 30 years ago. We also have Pauline, Catriona, and unusually two very talented gentlemen crafters in David and John.
What makes your shop special?
We are a business that isn't just a shop. Although we offer exceptional stocks of high quality products we are passionate about what we do as well as what we sell. We are experts and happy to pass on our knowledge either in our range of courses or customer queries.
What are your most popular yarns?
WYS, Katia, Adriafil, Sublime.
Do you have a knitting group? When do they meet?
1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 7pm to 9pm.
What's your favourite piece of knitting advice?
Never panic!!!
