Yarn Circle:
We love our local yarn shops, don't you?
It's always fun to find out the stories behind our favourite shops, so we sat down for a quick chat with Jane from Craft Days in Saffron Walden.
What's your shop called? Is there a story behind the name?
Craft Days, because who doesn't need a craft day?
Where is your shop and what is the neighbourhood like?
We are in the High Street in Saffron Walden, a vibrant, pretty, old market town with a long history, loads going on and great shopping. We have twice as many independent shops as the national average and an award-winning market.
Who works at your shop?
Mostly me and my friendly, helpful and knowledgeable team!
What makes your shop special?
It is a hub of colour and creativity. We run workshops and hold social get-togethers, alongside a carefully curated range of beautiful yarns and fabrics. We even have our own range of hand dyed yarns called Colours of Saffron Walden where the inspiration is taken from our lovely town and its surroundings.
What are your most popular yarns?
Erika Knight, West Yorkshire Spinners and Katia. We have recently started stocking Rowan.
Do you have a knitting group? When do they meet?
Yes (although not exclusively knitting) Open House is every Friday morning from 10am-1.00pm and Meet and Make is every 2nd and 4th Thursday evening from 6.30pm-9.00pm. No need to book, no fixed fee, just a voluntary contribution towards the refreshments.
What's your favourite piece of knitting advice?
If in doubt choose the colour that makes you smile.
