WOW! Embossing Powder Masterclass: Pouncing

Here is Marion’s inspiring tutorial to showcase this technique, creating heat-embossed elements for cards.

When you watch the tutorial, you'll see why it's called ‘pouncing’ but we wanted to start with a safety message:

Always ensure you are only pressing the heat tool down for very short periods at a time, then coming up 'for air' in between.
This stops the heat & pressure building up inside the tool, which will happen if you just hold the tool down, not allowing the air to circulate through as intended.

How to create
1 Die-cut the various flower layers from WOW Superior Smooth cardstock and lay the largest one on scrap paper on a flat surface.
2 Pour out some of your first powder, in several spots across the whole flower. This isn't a time for finger pinch sprinkles; we do need a nice thick layer of embossing for this to work.
3 Now repeat this for your other two coloured powders, ensuring that you have well covered the entire die-cut.
4 Once you have a thick base of colour, sprinkle over a pinch of Opaque Bright White Ultra High embossing powder. This will soften and lighten the finished blend and gives some great visual texture.
5 Carefully lift with your palette knife to remove the scrap paper and lay down onto a non-stick and heat resistant mat of some sort.
6 Lay a piece of baking paper over the embossing powder, and heat from above until you see the powder start to melt.
7 Now begin to 'pounce' the heat gun down onto the baking paper. Move over, pouncing across the whole die-cut, until you're happy with the blend.
8 To remove the baking paper, either let it cool completely, or warm it up whilst gently peeling back the paper. Note: If you let it cool completely before peeling the baking paper, it will be matt, that can then be shined up by applying heat, just be careful not to overheat.
9 Repeat this with all of your flower pieces, mixing and matching your chosen powders to give some beautiful differences & effects across your flower.
10 Once fully cooled, use strong liquid glue to adhere each layer together, weighing down with something to ensure good adhesion.
11 Cut an A4 sheet of Superior Smooth cardstock in half and score at 148.5mm. Fold and burnish the crease to create a top folding card.
12 Stamp & trim a sentiment, cutting the end at a diagonal.
13 Adhere the flower with strong liquid glue, and use foam adhesive to add the sentiment strip next to it.
14 Use black gems as a centre to the flower and adhere more, randomly across the whole card front.
