Watermelon Plush Project

A slice of fun, this fluffy pink and green watermelon is just waiting to be cuddled. Once you've mastered the melon, you can use the pattern to make a variety of fruits.

You’ll need:

  • Polyester fleece fabric in pink – 153/4 x 113/4in (40 x 30cm)
  • Felt fabric in black – 12in (30.5cm) square
  • Polar fleece fabric in white – 153/4in (40cm) square
  • Faux fur fabric in grass green – 235/8 x 73/4in (60 x 20cm)
  • Soft-toy filling
  • Sewing thread in white, black and green
  • Sewing machine with ballpoint 90/14 stretch needle
  • Sewing needle
  • Pins
  • Fabric scissors
  1. Using the Watermelon Flesh template, pin and cut out two from the pink fleece fabric. Using the Watermelon Pips template, pin and cut out 10 from the black felt fabric. Pin five of the pips on the fluffy side of one of the pink flesh pieces so that they are spaced out evenly and away from the edges. Repeat with the remaining pips on the other piece of fabric.

With the sewing machine set on a short and narrow appliqué stitch and using black thread, very carefully and slowly, without stretching the fleece fabric, sew all the way around the outer edge of each black pip, remembering to backstitch. Neaten off any stray threads to the reverse of the piece and trim. Repeat with the ot
