Velvet Grecian Dress - Accessories Tutorial

So many of you loved the no-pattern velvet dress in issue 21 were pleased to bring you a bonus tutorial to make glamourous faux leather accessories to complete your party look.

I love the elegance of this simple Grecian dress. The combination of teal velvet and gold faux leather accents is totally on trend and really luxurious. The addition of these accessories means you can wear the dress in a number of different ways, perfect if you have lots of Christmas parties to attend. - Josie

Skill Level - beginner

Materials:

-50cm of faux leather at least 115cm wide

-2 x press fasteners (I used 10mm jersey press studs)

-1x buckle

Making the faux leather shoulder accents

1.         Using a rotary cutter if you have one. Cut two rectangles of the faux leather 7cmx15cm.

2.         With right sides together and using a 1.5cm seam allowance, sew along the length of the fabric to create a tube.

3.         Trim the seam allowance and turn the tube right side out and press flat with your hands.

4.         Attach the press studs to each end so that when they join it forms a band.

Making the faux leather belt

5.         Cut a rectangle 15cm x (W +25cm)

6.         With right sides together and using a 1.5cm seam allowance, sew along the length of the fabric to create a tube. Pins will leave holes in your faux leather so hold the fabric in place with fabric clips.

7.         Trim the seam allowance and turn the tube right side out.

8.         Using a pair of scissors neatly trim the loose ends rounding off the corners.

9.         Sew the buckle to one end of the belt.

10.       The other end should be folded over and sewn down.
