Turn cheap baubles into gorgeous crochet Christmas baubles!

Save lots of money by using super cheap baubles you find in diy shops or supermarkets in large packs. You can transform what was a cheap looking set into a Christmas decoration heirloom that your family will cherish for years to come. You could even use sparkly yarn to give them an extra christmassy feel. We especially love crochet baubles because they look so good on your tree in the day time too!  

We've found free crochet bauble patterns you can use, you just need to choose your colour theme! Bright colours for a contemporary Christmas tree, rustics for a Scandi look or maybe stick to pure white cotton for a traditional Christmas.

We spotted these beautiful vibrant baubles over on the blog Little Woollie and after a bit of searching we found a free pattern for some very similar baubles.

Australian blog Handmade and Home has a great free tutorial for making up your own crochet Christmas baubles. They look good mixed with baubles with no cover, a good contrast between the shiny surfaces and the yarn.

Snovej Crafts has a number of pattern ideas for crocheting Christmas baubles.

In these patterns the bauble shows through so you get the shine or you could use clear baubles if you can find them. I love the way when the cover is pulled up tight it really shapes the crochet into perfectly symmetrical diamonds.

There are some very traditional green, white and red colour crochet baubles here in amongst some very bright and bold colours indeed! We love this post from The Patchwork Heart who explains that she started working on these without a pattern. She used cheap baubles to cover and she explains how she achieved these great results in the post.

This pattern actually calls itself a 'spiral ball pattern' but with the addition of a hook it's most definitely also a Christmas bauble pattern! Find the free step by step pdf pattern on Ravelry. The difference with this pattern is rather than covering a bauble you stuff it.

This got us thinking that a stuffed bauble maybe a better option for families with small children than glass/plastic baubles that shatter. Then we found this amazing Christmas bauble tutorial which also shows you how to make the little metal top/attachment out of crochet.
