Try a Rotary Cutter

For optimum cutting the rotary cutter has almost replaced the classic dressmaker‘s scissors, especially in the patchwork and quilting area. Absolutely ideal for exact cutting, the extensive patchwork and quilting range from Prym offers a wealth of different rotary cutters for precise craft work. You can cut long, straight lines or curves, and as well as cutting several layers of fabric, you can even cut forwards or backwards.

To keep your rotary cutter in tip-top condition, make a habit of taking it apart to clean out any lint or stray fibres

2

Make Your Mark

There are so many options for marking your fabric these days! You can choose from pens and pencils with either self-erasing or water-erasable properties, ergonomic marking tools and cartridge pens. This means that transferring cutting or quilting patterns and all sorts of markings is problem-free.

Different fabrics will react differently to each marking tool, so always make sure to test in an inconspicuous area first

3

The Right Rulers

Investing in a range of quilting rulers and cutting mats will make your life so much easier. We love this rotating cutting mat from Prym, which has a wavy edge for easy turning, thus enabling the fabric to be brought into the optimum position for working. The grippy underside prevents slipping while working. Pair it with a ruler from the omnigrid range and your choice of cutting tools.

Cutting mats must on no account be used as ironing sheets and
they must always be stored flat. If only limited storage space is
available, Prym’s foldable mat would be the ideal solution.

Happy hand-stitching

Whether you're using needle and thread for basting, EPP, hand-quilting or stitching on your binding, it's worth investing in the right materials. Sewing needles are so widely available that it can be easy to think they're all the same - but that's not the case, and the more hand-stitching you do, the more you'll come to realise that quality matters!

We love Prym's Quilter's Premium range. The fine and extra fine sewing needles are made from tempered steel and combine all the features required for quilting. As well as the proven symmetry and burr-free eyes, the points of the needles have been ground specially several times to give them that extra mark of quality. The optimised ratio of length to diameter gives them ideal stability and flexibility.

5

Binding made easy

Binding can make or break your quilt. Whether you're using pre-made bias binding or making your own, a clean and crisp finish is far easier to achieve when you invest in the right tools. Our all-time favourite tools are binding clips - once you start using them, you won't know how you lived without them! They can hold 5 or more layers easily and without distorting the fabric.
