The Basics - Decoupage Tips with Angela Johnson of Craft Consortium
Decoupage can be a little confusing because there are two types of decoupage in paper crafts. One is gluing and layering elements onto a surface and covering it completely. The surface can be MDF pieces, furniture, books, journal covers, tissue boxes, etc. The layers are then sealed with a glue with different finishing effects (glossy, matte, etc). The other type of decoupaging is creating layered scenes with either pre-printed papers or stamps.
The decoupaging in this tutorial is so easy to do and really enjoyable! Angela shares how to decoupage Creativ MDF letters, plus shares tips and tricks for making this process easier. In time for Mother’s Day, she uses the letters M-U-M along with some stunning Craft Consortium Decoupage Sheets to cover the letters. These sheets come in several designs! They’re stunning but are also durable and so effective in creating seamless finishes on your surfaces. You can either use these sheets as a whole or tear them into bits and then glue them to your project.
You also want to make sure you’re using the proper glue and decoupage brushes for your decoupaging. Craft Consortium offers high quality glue in a gloss or matte finish that’s water-based. You use this glue to add your papers to your surface, but you’ll also need to add 2 or 3 coats at the end to “seal” your finished project. Plus they also have beautiful brushes with strong, but flexible nylon bristles to apply your glue.
