Easy Swing Card Tutorial
In card making we generally score cardstock down the centre then fold in half and decorate it. But with just a few cuts and folds, you could create cards with character – added panels that flip around to reveal an extra-special surprise!
These fancy fold cards may look intimidating but they really are relatively easy to make. You can buy dies that will cut your entire swing card, fancy shapes and all but here we are going to show you how to do-it-yourself with basic shaped swing panels on a variety of sized shaped cards.
Trim a 7½x5½” panel in your preferred colour.
Place horizontally on the scoreboard and score at 3¼” and 4¼”, only as far as 1½” down from the top of the cardstock, then rotate 180º and repeat.
Use a craft knife or paper trimmer to cut the swing panel – make a vertical cut line 2½” long and 1¾” in from the left side and 1½” from the top and bottom
Repeat on the right-hand side
Make horizontal cuts from the top of the first vertical cut to the top of the second vertical without cutting between the score lines. Rotate and repeat, remembering not to cut between the score lines.
Mountain and valley fold the score lines to allow the swing panel to swing out as it is opened and closed.
