Stitched Together: Skeins, Derbyshire
What's the story behind your shop name?
Skeins - I am originally a hand dyer and needed a name for that part of my business hence Skeins. I did think about Hanks, but that reminded me of an American diner!
Where is your shop, and what is the neighbourhood like?
The shop moved to its current location on George Street Glossop in March 2015. It's a lovely side street with some unusual shops which make it a destination street.
Who works at your shop?
At present I am back to working on my own which I enjoy. It doesn't seem like I am on my own as many of my customers are now more like friends.
What makes your shop special?
The shop has a relaxed atmosphere and we get people traveling from far and wide to visit us always willing to offer support and advice.
What are your most popular yarns?
Baby yarns are always popular especially with those returning to knitting when they find out they are to become grandparents!
Do you have a knitting group? When do they meet?
There has been a KnitnNatter group at Skeins since we opened 7 years ago with several of the original members still coming on a Wednesday evening.
What's your favourite piece of knitting advice?
My favourite piece of advice is to do the dreaded tension swatch, particularly if you are substituting yarns.
