Stitched Together: Ammonite Yarns
Ammonite Yarns is participating in the Stitched Together campaign, which you can read about here.
What's your shop called?
Ammonite Yarns. We're called this for several reasons. We like Ammonites, they are lovely and organic like wool and A is at the top of list for alphabetic listings!
Where is your shop?
We are in Pontyclun, just west of Cardiff. The village is on the edge of the Welsh Valleys but isn't stereotypically a Valley town as we are also close to Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. I'd say it is fairly middle class and aspiring with few of the unemployment issues that the Valley suffer from.
Who works at your shop?
Ruth Moore and Jenny Watts, who are co-owners.
What makes your shop special?
We are the only shop in South Wales which stocks Drops yarns but we also try to make sure that we showcase British yarns. Our strap-line is Bringing Wool to Wales, there are loads of sheep here but not many yarn shops so we are trying to correct the balance.
What are your most popular yarns?
Drops, Robin Bonny Babe, Woolly Wumkins (locally dyed yarn) and Signature sock yarn.
Do you have a knitting group?
Yes, it meets on Tuesday mornings and evenings and is open to crocheters too. We are planning another dedicated drop-in for a charity project.
What's your favourite piece of knitting advice?
You can do anything but make sure you read the pattern!
