Shirring Made Easy
Ensure your dress fits like a dream with our top tips for shirring
Lighter fabric works best so avoid heavy or thick cotton.
You will use regular thread in the spool and use the elastic thread in your bobbin.
Hand-wind the elastic onto the bobbin, taking care not to stretch it out as you go.
Sew a row with a straight stitch setting, back-tacking at each end.
When you start to sew a parallel row of stitching the fabric will start to bunch up so go slowly and open your fabric back up to keep straight.
Once you've finished, lightly spray your shirring with water then hover your iron over the top to steam. This will make your shirring gather beautifully!
