Two years ago, we downsized to a charming 1925 stone and shingle cottage where I immediately set out to find space for a studio. By combining several small rooms, I carved out a light-filled workspace that inspires me daily.

My mother was a talented seamstress and I keep spools of her colourful thread beside the table I use for sewing and other crafty projects. Its teapot-embellished tabletop is perfect for me, a former tearoom proprietress.

I enjoy sewing home dcor items for my Etsy shop from vintage textiles on a Singer 285-J sewing machine, a turquoise low-tech workhorse. Best used for basic sewing projects, this 1960s straight-stitch-only machine sews bulky layers with ease. For more complex projects, I use my reliable 30-year-old Singer 6212c.

Chock full of my favorite things, my studio features an oak Hoosier storage cabinet with a long shelf above for my picnic tin collection. A refurbished 1940s produce bin keeps sewing trims and fabric remnants stowed neatly away. Cheery vintage tablecloths hang on a rustic wooden ladder just because they are so pretty to look at. Finally, a grouping of stitched cottage pictures embodies all that is warm and welcoming about home, sweet home.
