SEWING PATTERN REVIEW: B6893 flutter-sleeved dress
Crafty Sew and So’s Freya shares her take on this month’s beautiful flutter-sleeved dress
When I got to choose this pattern for the reader review, I chose B6893, as I knew this one would be perfect for the weddings and baptisms I will be going to this year. The soft, gentle drape of the twist front and the floaty sleeves give beautiful, romantic vibes that are perfect for celebrations!
The twisted front is made with a fun and unusual construction method, so I decided to toile the bodice to make sure it would fit right. I grade between a size 16 and a size 18 in Butterick patterns, and the shape of the pattern pieces means it's not obvious where to make adjustments until you toile. With some careful thinking, I made my adjustments and followed the instructions to create the pretty front and beautiful sleeves.

Once I was happy with the fit, I cut the pattern from some beautiful viscose lawn I have had in my stash for a couple of years. The soft viscose works perfectly for this pattern, giving lovely drape and swish. Perfect for dancing! I choose to put in an invisible zip, as it's my favourite finish for dresses. I know some people are afraid of invisible zips, but they give the best finished look on a pretty dress.
The green fabric is a bit unusual for me to wear, but it is perfect for spring and summer, and I've already worn it to one wedding! I'm also planning on wearing it to other parties and events this year. I already know this dress will get a lot of wear, as it will come out my wardrobe for plenty of garden parties and summer walks.
