Round The Bend Tutorial
The amazing Emma Fuge has mastered the bendy card blank and we cannot wait to try out this new technique for ourselves
Bendy cards are fabulous display cards that are perfect for creating 3D scenes. The sides of the card bend inwards allowing it to stand up on its own and creating tiers that can be individually decorated. These can be turned into striking cards that stand on their own. The finished card can also fold down flat for normal postage!
It may seem complicated at first but if you follow the directions, it is a breeze. Also I think this type of card would look great to add to the top of a present, so it can be folded into it’s dimensional form. Then the panels can open and reveal the messages inside!
I know it’s been out there forever, but I had never sat down and played with creating a landscape card like this. It was so fun to decorate all the different parts of it and they are not as hard as they look, but it really helps to have someone walk you through the directions the first time. The fun part about bendy cards is, it looks 3D when it's closed and when you open it up, it reveals another scene! how cool right?
I love the dimension of these fun fold cards. Friends and family will love to show off your crafting when you make something that will sit on a table or shelf! Look at my tutorial to learn how to make this card and then you'll be making bendy cards for every occasion too!
Make a 4”-square card blank from thick white cardstock. Remove 11/2” section from the top of the right hand side of the card front.
Score the piece you have removed at 1/2” on both of the short edges (this will create your tab). Stamp the sentiment.
Cover the back and front panels with patterned paper and round the corners at the top with a punch. Score the larger front panel along the short end at 1/2” on the right-hand side and snip out a tab. Attach the smaller panel with the sentiment along the score line as shown.
Create the slits for your tabs to go into by taking the larger panel, bend it to make a curved outward front, making sure you keep the bottom edges level and straight.
Mark where the tab sits on either side with a pencil cut between the two marks with a knife, this can vary depending how deep you want your bendy cards to be.
Place this panel tab in the slit and repeat the process with your second smaller panel on the opposite side. Decorate with stamped images and glue close to the tabs to disguise the cut marks secure the bendy elements.
