Review Children's Decopatch & Modelling Kits
Leah-May decided to start off with the Decopatch Elephant Mini Kit, Inside the box was the Elephant not sure what this is made from but very sturdy it was light and easy to hold, also there were 2 sheets of paper, a brush and the glue/varnish, on the glue it had got a note on that it can cause allergic reaction which didnt sound good to start off with but pleased it was noted. There were no age on the box but we felt it was great for Children from the age of 10 and upwards.
It showed us on the back of the box that you put the paper on first then the glue, this was really fiddly and makes your fingers very sticky to start with, it was also hard to hold the paper on the Elephant and glue at the same time
We then tried a different way by putting the glue on the Elephant first and then put the paper on, this helped alot and held the paper in place and then we brushed the glue over it and it was alot better to put it into shape BUT the paper did get alot wetter but it didnt rip
After Leah-May had finished we could see there was still alot of paper and glue left which would be good if you had another piece to do.
The cost is £7.99 which we felt was a good amount but would'nt pay any more for the size, the Elephant was about 6cm high by 10 cm long The Elephant is a lovely piece of crafting to keep
It took about 1 hour to do.
DIY Kit Tink the Turtle Modelling with Clay Kit
We then started on the Tinky the Turtle Modelling Kit
There was 4 little containers in the box each sealed and hard to open, each container had a label with what was inside that container This kit also had no age limit on but we felt that any Children over the age of 4 could do this with help from a parent.
The instructions were on the back of the box in pictures which was good and clear, but it didnt show that you needed some of the pink and blue Foam Clay at the end to embellish the Turtle.
The Silk Clay was soft and gooey and the texture was like marshmallows. The Silk Clay was easy to mould around the circle polystyrene ball but didnt say how much to leave for the legs.
We then got the Foam Clay out of the container it had small balls (like 100 & 1000's) and glitter in it, it was very sticky and smelt like PVA GLUE, it also crackled like bubble wrap, it was soft to mould over but it was quite hard to spread without it ripping and getting thin in places.
After Leah-May had got the pink Foam Clay around the polystyrene semi circle we then cut the rest of the Blue Silk Clay into 4 semi circles for the legs BUT once you had put them on the Foam Clay you couldn't take them off as it immediately stuck which was annoying as we had put the first leg down in the wrong place and we couldnt do anything about it. The Eyes went in easily but smaller children would need help to do this as you need to push them in.
Leah-May then carried on getting the other Blue Foam Clay out & carried on moulding around the 2nd polystyrene semi circle, this seemed easier than the first but Leah-May thought it was because she knew what to do, She then opened the last container that had 2 small Green bits of Foam Clay, 1 Pink Silk Clay and 1 Orange Silk Clay, these Leah-May made into small plants to put on the Blue Foam Clay Island.
When Leah-May had finished Tinky the Turtle Modelling Kit there was nothing left in the containers so there was just enough of everything to finish and complete them.
The cost of this kit is £4.99 which is fine but we wouldnt want to pay anymore The finished size is Tinky the Turtle is 10cm long and 6 cm high the Island is 6cm x 6 cm. This also took about a hour but with a younger child probably longer is needed, this is defiantly for the younger child than the Decopatch Elephant Kit
We both had a great day together trying both these kits out and My Grandaughter Leah-May enjoyed the experience as much as I did and would love to do it again. The write up is in Leah-May's words and was happy to take both The Elephant and Tinky the Turtle home. Thank you for this opportunity to share our experience with everyone at Craftworld and CraftStash
