New colours from WOW! Embossing Powder
Inspired by Gwen Lafleur and her travels around the world, the colours in the Silk Road Trio echo her train voyage along that storied route, starting in China. Brightly coloured paper lanterns festoon streets and doorways everywhere you look. The Chinese Lantern embossing powder reflects the reds and oranges most commonly seen and the semi-transparent finish is a nod to the translucency of a lighted lantern.
Continuing the journey, we come to the "Stans" - a string of beautiful and exotic countries that comprise the bulk of the length of the Silk Road. In Tajikstan, pomegranate season brings baskets of this delicious fruit piled high in stalls all throughout the local markets. The ripe skin of the fruit is captured beautifully in the Pomegranate embossing powder; deep reds are flecked with honey and gold, and it comes out beautifully opaque in your work.
Finally, this trio wouldn't be complete without its namesake, Silk Brocade. This glossy, semi-transparent powder shimmers with a metallic undertone and the mulberry colour reflects the blossoms of the tree that's home to the precious silk worm that was (and still is) at the heart of the silk trade.
This trio of powders was inspired by Gwen Lafleur and her travels in the Middle East, particularly in Turkey - a fascinating country which, among many other things, is famous for Turkish Coffee. This beverage is known for its thick consistency, deep dark colour, strength, and rich flavour and aroma. Its corresponding embossing powder embraces those traits with an added metallic shimmer, making the colour even richer.
While Turquoise was originally mined in Persia, it was first brought to Europe via Turkey, forever linking the country with its namesake gemstone. Older turquoise has a tendency to be a bit greener, and this powder has hints in that direction that are highlighted if you stamp with green ink before embossing. True turquoise is often characterized by its matrix; darker veins (often gold coloured) that contrast beautifully with the blue-green. We've made sure to highlight that characteristic with metallic gold flecks throughout the powder.
This Trio is rounded out with a lovely Tarnished Brass - a metallic brass flecked with blacks and browns to give it a more aged look. This was inspired by the antique brass Turkish and Arabian coffee pots, incense burners and decor, as well as beads which are common throughout this part of the world.
