Layered heat-embossing is super easy, it involves embossing each part of a layered stamp set to build the design as you would with inks! By mixing embossing powders and ink, you build a three-dimensional design which has the wow-factor!

Many of us have used heat-embossing in our cardmaking and it has been around for many years.  With the more recent development of layered stamps you can stamp and layer up different embossing powders for a variety of finishes.

You can use an embossing ink such as VersaMark or any coloured Pigment ink which will remain tacky for the powder to stick. Embossing powders now come in a vast range of colours and finishes; they are not expensive and last a very long time.

Use an anti-static bag between each stamped layer to avoid stray specs of embossing powder in unwanted places. Also, make sure your heat tool is hot before heating the powder to help avoid too much warping of the card. When stamping each layer press firmly to get a good coverage of ink, especially when stamping over the embossing.

You can create many different finished looks to layered heat embossing depending on whether you use coloured or clear inks and which type and colour of embossing powder you use. Have a look through your stash of inks and powders and give this technique a try.

Cut a 17cm-square piece of white cardstock and wipe using an anti-static bag. Stamp the solid flower stamp using Pearlescent Orchid ink, cover with clear embossing powder and heat. Repeat for a second flower.

Wipe over the cardstock using an anti-static bag. Stamp the second layer of the flower using VersaMark ink, cover with Honolulu embossing powder and heat.

Wipe the cardstock again using an anti-static bag. Stamp the third layer of the flower using Pearlescent Poppy ink, cover with clear embossing powder and heat.

Stamp the solid leaves using VersaMark ink and heat-emboss using Appletini embossing powder.

Stamp the second layer of leaves using Tea Leaves ink and heat-emboss using clear embossing powder.

Stamp the sentiment using Pearlescent Orchid ink and heat-emboss using clear embossing powder. Layer the stamped panel onto pink cardstock and decorate using gems to finish.
