Work in main colour (MC) to first colour change as indicated in chart or written instructions.

Join contrast colour (CC) by taking tail end of yarn under MC with ball end on right-hand side.

Work the number of stitches in CC as specified in the pattern.

To switch back to MC, keep CC held below and bring CC above without twisting.

Continue in MC until next colour change. Bring CC below without twisting.

Spread stitches out on right-hand needle to avoid getting tight floats (the strands of colour changes on the wrong side of your knitting). Knit next stitch in CC.

Continue in pattern, following chart or written instructions for colour changes.

At the end of each row or round, check that your work is not puckering.

To work colour changes when working across the wrong side of your work, follow the above steps but working purl stitches instead of knit, and make sure to follow your chart in the opposite direction.
