At KN HQ, there is no season that we don’t like: spring is full of joy and promise, summer’s light evenings are a real spirit-lifter, and the sights and smells of autumn are a treat for the senses. As for winter? We love it! The bright cold days and the frosty chills that mean knitwear is a must from dawn till dusk.

There is nothing quite like closing the curtains and casting on a new project. This issue we’ve got some bright and beautiful makes to bring a splash of colour into dark January evenings, such as the fabulous Gromit sweater on page 13 and Lana Jois’s joyful cover star on page 16. This clever stripy number uses a soothing colour palette that will take you from winter to spring in style.

If you’re looking for some single-tone stunners to wear and wow, we’ve got plenty of those too – there is the gorgeous green Climbing Vines cable number on page 71, a pretty yellow lacy cardi on page 60, while Marina Skua’s Amber Apple design on page 49 is beautifully simple with chic puff sleeves for some stand-out style. But, if you do want to go all-out bright, Tonia Lyons has created a wonderful poncho of bold colourblock hues, and Shuyi Wu’s misaligned socks are real statement style for the feet!

There are plenty of ideas to make the most of this issue’s cable needles, too – check out the easy one-ball warmer headband on page 22 if you’re new to these stitches (or if you’re a pro looking for a super quick knit!).

As always, there is plenty to read in between projects, or just for when you fancy taking a break from the needles. We think you’ll really enjoy our Ask the Experts feature this issue, particularly if you’re in need of some advice on combining colours, plus you can meet our latest recruit to the Knit Now pages… Rosie Fletcher from Slipstitch who will be running us through life as a yarn shop owner.

We hope you love our collection of fabulous knits to start 2024 in woolly style!

Happy knitting!
