Issue 29 - Our cover star!
Our crochet cover star this month is this gorgeous top from one of our top designers, Lena Fedotova!
The Lule Tunisian Top is a trendy, relaxed fit stop which has a t-shirt silhouette, and is made using a soft but sturdy 4ply cotton, making it light to wear, but heavy enough to have a lovely drape, fitting to the body with plenty of positive ease. This means you can wear tshirts, vests, and even longer sleeves when the weather turns cooler (which we hope won't be for a while yet!)
About the yarn
The yarn used here is Wendy Supreme Cotton 4-ply which you can buy online from our friends at SMD Knitting and Lena picked a lovely shade of blue (Dragonfly 1836) which is bright, but not in-your-face, making it very easy to pair with items in your wardrobe. There are 15 shades to choose from though, so if blue isn't your colour, don't worry!
Construction
The top is constructed using motifs in the Tunisian crochet technique. The really amazing thing about this pattern though is that you can make these motifs with any regular crochet hook (as long as the handle is the same length all the way down) and you don't work with more than 7 loops on your hook at once. We do suggest that you try this pattern only if you have some familiarity with the technique though. As you work, you join the motifs as you go to construct the top, using Lena's step-by-step guide.
We love the beauty in the detail! The cotton gives a breathtaking stitch definition, and the picot edging is delicate. The split seam in the side just adds a hint of fun, and helps to keep the fit of the top comfortable over your waist and hips.
