You will need...

  • scraper tool
  • a sink, bath or water basin which is bigger than your mat so that it can be fully submerged
  • washing up liquid

How to clean your mats

  1. Scrape all the excess material from your mat
  2. Run a shallow warm bath, sink or basin of water with just a little gentle washing up liquid
  3. Put your mat in to soak for 10 minutes, ensuring it is fully submerged in the water
  4. Carefully rub the sticky surface with your fingertips to remove any debris - do not use a scrubber or any harsh chemicals, as this may damage the sticky surface
  5. Leave your mat to air dry indoors overnight - this will re-activate the stick
  6. Store your mats with the clear cover - ideally hanging up, so that dust does not collect on the sticky surface when it's not in use

When should I replace my mats?

At the end of the day, your mat is classed as a consumable product - it will lose its stick eventually, even with the most diligent care.

You should replace your mat when you find that it isn't holding your vinyl or paper in place when it's being cut. If the mat isn't doing its job, you might end up wasting vinyl, so it's best to invest in a new mat whenever you need to.
