Turning a challenging year into a positive, Housing for Women are launching their Joining Together Campaign to celebrate the power of coming together, to support each other and change lives. To commemorate the charity’s 85thanniversary, the quilt comprises of 85 individual blocks created by 41 women from Quilters Guilds groups based mainly in South London. Because the quilt was created during lockdown it was made from materials people already had in their homes. Every piece tells a story, of people’s own experiences of lockdown and their messages of hope for the women we support.

Partners Caroline Wilkinson and Alison Scrimshaw joined forces to share their expertise and networks to coordinate the production of the quilt. Alison is the Group Leader for the Quilters Guild, Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Caroline teaches quilting to prisoners in Wandsworth and Brixton with the Charity and Social Enterprise, Fine Cell Work.

“We’ve been inspired by the number of people coming together to support each other this year,”

says Zaiba Qureshi, Chief Executive of Housing for Women.

“The power of community cannot be underestimated. What better way to celebrate a challenging year, than by coming together to make a comforting quilt?”

Individuals and companies in London have stepped up to sponsor a square, raising funds to support vulnerable women and children.

So far they have raised over £15,000. Visit the JustGiving page to donate to this amazing cause https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/joiningtogetherquilt
