FREE PATTERN: Crochet Christmas Pudding

Essentials

Yarn used
Acrylic DK
Small amounts in, brown (A), white (B), green (C) & red (D)

Yarn like Stylecraft Special DK would work well here. Only small amounts of each are needed: the whole pudding uses around 15g of yarn or 45m in total, with most of that being brown then white

Tension
18 sts x 24 rows = 10cm measured over dc

Hook used
4mm

tapestry needle

Sizing
To fit Terry’s Chocolate Orange, 65mm diameter


This pattern is worked in the amigurumi style, in a spiral without slip stitching or turning chains. Use a stitch marker or waste yarn to keep track of the first stitch of each round.


Main Pudding

Rnd 1: With A and working into a magic ring, 6 dc. 6 sts
Rnd 2: 2 dc in each st around. 12 sts
Rnd 3: [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] 6 times. 18 sts
Rnd 4: [2 dc, 2 dc in next st] 6 times. 24 sts
Rnd 5: [3 dc, 2 dc in next st] 6 times. 30 sts
Rnd 6: [4 dc, 2 dc in next st] 6 times. 36 sts
Rnd 7: [5 dc, 2 dc in next st] 6 times. 42 sts
Rnds 8-16: Dc around.
Rnd 17: [5 dc, 1 dc2tog] 6 times. 36 sts
Rnd 18: [4 dc, 1 dc2tog] 6 times. 30 sts
Rnd 19: [3 dc, 1 dc2tog] 6 times. 24 sts
Rnd 20: Dc around.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Sauce
Rnds 1-6: With B, as for Main Pudding. 36 sts
Rnd 7: Making the drips;
Drip 1: 5 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 4 dc, 3 dc in Rnd 6;
Drip 2: 3 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 2 dc, 2 dc in Rnd 6, 2 dc in next st;
Drip 3: 7 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 6 dc, 3 dc in Rnd 6;
Drip 4: 2 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc, 2 dc in Rnd 6, 2 dc in next st;
Drip 5: 4 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 3 dc, 3 dc in Rnd 6;
Drip 6: 4 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 3 dc, 2 dc in Rnd 6, 2 dc in next st;
Drip 7: As Drip 3;
Drip 8: As Drip 2;
Drip 9: As Drip 1;
Drip 10: As Drip 2;
Drip 11: 6 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 5 dc, 3 dc in rnd 6;
Drip 12: As Drip 4.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Leaves (make 2)
Rnd 1: With C, [3 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc, 1 htr] 4 times, 1 dc in the sp between the first and second spike created, 3 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc, [1 htr, 1 dc] in first ch, 3 ch, beg in 2nd ch from hook, 2 dc, sl st to first dc of rnd to join. 6 spikes
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Berries (make 3)
Rnd 1: With D and working into a magic ring, 6 dc. 6 sts
Rnd 2: Dc around. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Weave tail through the sts on Rnd 2, pull up tight and knot, leaving a long end for sewing.

Making up
Using a tapestry needle and tails, sew the base of each Leaf to the centre of the Sauce, sew the Berries as a cluster in the centre of Leaves. Use the tail end on the outer edge of the Sauce. Sew the sauce onto the main pudding piece with the chocolate orange inside to hold
the tension.
