Die-cut Flip Cards Tutorial

The best dies for this technique are small label or frame dies, or a shape with an obvious centre such as a heart; this will make placing the die in the correct place much easier. Cut the cards to size and score and fold two lines down it. Place the die on the first score line with the centre of the die aligned with the score line and hold in place with low-tack tape.

The trick to creating these cards is the placement of the top cutting plate when die-cutting. Use the base of your cutting plates as normal and lay the scored card with the taped die on top. Insert the top cutting plate under the roller and line up the edge of the plate with the first score line and run through the machine. This will give you a partially die-cut shape where the die has cut only the area under the top cutting plate.

The same die is then used to cut extra pieces of cardstock to place over the front and back of the partial die-cut. This covers the score lines and makes the die-cut shape stand out. You can then finish decorating your card with die-cuts and sentiments. Have fun creating some flip cards!

1

Cut a 23x15cm piece of raspberry cardstock then score along the longer edge at 5cm, 7cm, 16cm and 18cm. Fold and burnish the score lines to make two opposite Z shapes

2

Cut two pieces of patterned paper 4.7x14.5cm and attach to the end panels as shown, then trim a 8.8x14.5cm piece and attach to the central panel

3

Make a pencil mark 1.5cm from the top on the first score line and 1.5cm from the bottom on the last score line. Place the top of the die at the upper pencil mark and the centre of the die along the score line and hold in place with low-tack tape

4

To partially die-cut the card, place the top cutting plate up to the score line and pass through the die-cutting machine

5

Place the bottom of the heart die at the lower pencil mark and the centre of the die along the score line and hold in place with low-tack tape. Partially die-cut again by placing the top cutting plate up to the score line

6

Die-cut four hearts using the same die from orange cardstock and attach to each side of the partial die-cut
