Zigzag finish using the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine at the edge of your fabric. This finish can be used for the majority of fabrics.

Use pinking shears for a quick finish. This is best for stable fabrics which do not fray easily.

Use a top stitched finish can be a quick and easy

If you have an overlocker (or a standard machine with an overlocking stitch), this is often the most stable seam for the majority of applications.

French seams give a lovely tidy finish and are perfect for sheer fabrics where the seams may be visible.

Hong Kong finish seams are another beautiful way to finish your seams in dressmaking. This method uses bias binding to encase the seams. It can be very useful when sewing with thicker fabric as it gives a neat finish without adding extra bulk.
