Eco Craft Book Flower Crown Project
In this video, authors Laura Minter and Tia Williams share a project with you from the book... the Egg Box Flower Crown! This beautiful crown is made entirely out of materials you will find in your recycling bin. With a lick of paint they can be transformed into a crown fit for a king or queen!
You will need
- 5 or 6 small empty egg boxes
- Scissors
- Pencil
- PVA glue
- Paint
- 12 bottle lids
- Strip of corrugated card
Cut each egg compartment out of the egg boxes, then cut down each side to create four flaps. Press the flaps flat.
Draw petal shapes onto each side of the egg compartments, then cut out to create a flower. Repeat so you have 16–20 flowers
Add a dab of glue to the middle of one flower and stick another inside it, making sure the petals are spread out and not overlapping. Leave to dry
Paint the flowers. Once dry, glue a bottle lid in the middle of each one
Cut a strip of corrugated card 2" (5cm) wide that is long enough to fit around your head with a bit of overlap.
Paint it green if you like. Glue the ends together to make a ring and leave to dry.
Draw simple leaf shapes in a variety of sizes onto the egg-box lids. Cut them out and paint them green.
Assemble your crown by gluing the flowers onto the cardboard and filling in any gaps with the leaves.
Top tips
You could even mix this project up a bit and try gluing a few egg-box flowers onto an old wide plastic headband. OR you could also string them together to create a garland, OR even hang them from an embroidery hoop to create a beautiful wall hanging!
