Distress Ink Colour Combinations: Part 1

In this new series we will be teaching you everything you need to know about Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink and Distress Oxide Ink. Learn which colours work well together and boost your blending skills to create unique designer backgrounds with ease!

For part one, I have selected Peacock Feathers and Kitsch Flamingo Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink, both are quite new colours, do you have them in your stash?

I like to tack my stencil to the cardstock from the back to keep it in place whilst blending, you'll notice that my cardstock is to size, this is so I can blend the outside darker from the beginner without a need to trim later on. Start by applying VersaMark embossing ink through the stencil using a blending brush (you can use foam if you prefer), remove the stencil, add embossing powder. Tap off the excess, and heat set to prep your cardstock. I'm working up the background from the bottom with Peacock Feathers Ink, creating solid colour up to halfway, then fading out. Repeat with the Flamingo Kitsch ink in the same way from the opposite end, then work over the faded blue to create a magical new colour! Once you're happy with the blend, use a dry paper towel to remove any excess ink which has resisted the heat-embossed areas of the background.

Finish your card with a few embellishments - I've opted for a simple white die-cut butterfly, a bold black sentiment and clear enamel dots!

I hope you have enjoyed part one of this inky series, we would love to see your makes using this brilliant colour combination!

Happy inking,

Lou
