Decopatch Kit Review
A Decopatch kit and Silk Clay Tinky the Turtle kit
crafty fun!
Hello everybody, my name is Issy, I am 11 years old, and I have been chosen to review these! I was really excited to have been chosen as I really enjoy crafting. I was going to do a video review but we had some problems with the laptop so I have done it this way instead.
I started off with the Tinky the Turtle kit. It comes with 4 pots of silk clay and foam clay, some polystyrene balls and half balls, and some eyes for the turtle. It has instructions on the back of the box.
First I took the small ball and covered it with silk clay to make the head. I really like the feel of the silk clay. I used a rolling pin to roll the clay and then wrapped it around the ball. My mum helped me stick the eyes in as it was a bit difficult. Next I covered a half ball with the foam clay to make the body, this felt a bit strange, a bit like slime with mini balls in it. To make the feet i cut circles out of silk clay and cut them in half.
The nice thing about the clay is it all sticks together and you don"t need any glue. The next step was to make the sea plants. So like with the turtles body I wrapped the blue foam clay around the other half ball, and then made the little plants and balls to stick on it, copying the picture on the box.
I really enjoyed doing this kit and I would definitely buy more of these kits and even just the silk clay on its own so I can make my own things with it. I found the kit really easy to use except for the eyes. I think my finished turtle is super cute!
Now I am going to tell you about the Decopatch kit. I think it looks really cool. In the box is everything you need but I also used scissors to cut the paper instead of tearing it as I found it easier. You get papers in different designs, which is good because you can choose what pattern you want for the dogs coat,( I went with gingham), a mini brush which is so cute, a pot of glue and of course a little dog to decorate.
I started off by cutting the paper into small squares, with some help as it was taking me a while. I then put some glue onto the dog with the brush, and stuck on the paper, trying to make sure it was flat and had no wrinkles by brushing over the top. Thats pretty much all there is too it, just keep putting glue and paper on until you have covered it all. I found the body really quick and easy to do, but the feet and legs were a bit fiddly and I had to cut my paper pieces a bit smaller.
Once I finished covering the whole dog I let it dry so that I could paint on some eyes to finish him off.
Here is my finished dog! I hope you like him. I did enjoy using this kit, but I did find it a bit fiddly doing the feet and legs, and I ended up with glue all over my hands! I think I would probably buy one of the other kits as I really like how my dog has turned out. My Mum also thinks it is great value for money too as you get a decent size pot of glue with loads left over and also some of the paper which you could use for other projects.
I hope you have enjoyed my review.
