What comes to your mind when you think of the different tastes that you experience in the summer? For me, ice cream, iced coffees, tart fruits and scrumptious sorbets make my mouth water with anticipation of all the delectable treats we can enjoy in the sunshine! It’s not just these wonderful tastes that have inspired this issues collection however, as with a summer spread comes all the bright and vibrant colours and hues of those sweet sunshiny treats, from bright oranges and lemons to subtle sorbets and more. It took all my will power not to simply eat my way through putting this collection together this month!
If, like me, you love your summer fruits, then make a splash with our fabulous cover star from Katie Jones! The Fruit Salad Summer Top (page 24) is a celebration of colour and fruit slices that will bring a smile to your face as you crochet and wear it all summer long! Looking for your fruit fix on a smaller scale? Check out Inas Fadil Basymeleh’s beautiful Fruitz Mandala (page 60) and some pretty fruit slices coasters from the team at DROPS (page 84).
Maybe ice cream and sorbet are more to your liking? In which case, be sure to hook-up the Raspberry Ripple Wrap (page 40) designed by Katie Somchand, or how about a trendy cushion for your home with Kate Rowell’s Three Scoop Cushion (page 22)? You’re especially spoilt for choice when it comes to tasty blankets this month, with the Fruit Tingles blanket (page 16), Ice Cream Parlour baby blanket (page 48) and also the Sorbet Stripes blanket (page 76).
If you’re looking for fun then look no further than our collection of officially licenced toys from the Wallace & Gromit family (page 32) featuring two iconic women – Piella the Bake-O-Lite girl, and Wendolene, a woman after our own heart who runs a wool shop! Be sure to join Wallace & Gromit in supporting our local yarn shops over on page 74.
I hope you will love your brand-new stitch marker set just as much as I do – the bracelet is just perfect for storing all your favourite stitch markers on by the way – and why not have a little more fun with them and make the matching amigurumi, designed for us by Heather C Gibbs?
