Using your crafty supplies to create unique gift wrap is a great way to add an extra pizzazz to your Christmas gift giving this year! It takes less than you would think to make your gifts pop and impress your recipient. With some basics from your papercrafting stash you’ll have your gifts prettily presented in no time; all you really need is a bit of cardstock, twine or ribbon and a few embellishments. If you choose to, you can even incorporate fabric as I’ve done with my projects.

If you are thinking of jazzing up your gift wrap this year, the best place to start is to decide upon a theme and a colour scheme. Be sure to check what supplies you have on hand to use and try to match the theme and colours to them.

If you find that your supplies are low, you can still achieve a stunning co-ordinated look to your gifts. Even if you only have some cardstock, this can be cut or die-cut into seasonal foliage shapes and both buttons and sequins can be transformed into holly berries in an instant. Add texture to your gift wrap by using embossing folders, felt or fabric. If you’re a stamper, you can take your gift wrap to the next level and create customised wrapping paper too!

These ideas are not only limited to gifts that require wrapping for Christmas of course, with a change of colour scheme and shapes they can cater for all occasions throughout the year. The bottle tag can be used to add that special finishing touch to a gift and I’ve included an idea for presenting gift cards in style too. Gift cards are becoming an increasingly popular gift to purchase for all occasions.

For my stash-raided Christmas gift wrap, I’ve gone for traditional Christmas colours with a rustic, country-cottage theme. The gingham fabric really complements this style and I created distress-edged gingham ribbons to embrace the rustic them.

So, why not raid your papercrafting stash and impress your recipients this season with a present that really does come from the heart with customised gift wrap? It doesn’t take much and the added bonus is that you can add as little or as much as you want – the possibilities are almost endless!

1

Use a large circle template such as a plate and use a pencil to draw around onto gold tissue paper. Make sure it is bigger than the item you are wrapping

2

Cut out the circle traced onto the tissue paper. If you are wrapping multiple gifts of the same size, it saves time to fold the paper before it cutting out

3

Place the items to be wrapped in the centre of the gold tissue paper. Round items works well but you can also use this method to wrap gifts of other shapes too

4

Carefully fold the tissue paper circle up around the gift to gather it in the centre – try not to add unnecessary fold lines or creases into the paper

5

Use the distress-edged gingham ribbon to tie around the gathered tissue paper, pulling it as tightly as you can to secure it without tearing the paper

6

Add a bow tied from distress-edged gingham ribbon bow and a tag with string to finish the wrapping. Fan out the tissue to achieve an exuberant look
