The drawers for the base

The easiest way for me was to start with the drawers. You will need 6 matchboxes. Remove the drawers so that you now have 6 drawers and 6 sleeves. Glue 3 of the sleeves together on the long side. Repeat this with the 3 remaining drawers. Glue 2 of the drawers together on the short side. Repeat this with the 4 remaining drawers and glue two together. Now you should have something like this (the crosses mark the glue points).

Put the drawers together

Assemble the drawer as shown in the photo, be sure that everything is straight, so the drawers can be pull out easily:

Slide the drawers into the cases.

Cover the base

Now the base will be covered with cardboard. The dimensions depend on the actual size of your matchboxes and the resulting base. The strength of your cardboard also has an impact on it. My cardboard was 1 mm thick, the back of a paper pad.

My base was now 4 1/4" x 4 1/2". I needed 2 pieces of cardboard with this measurements for the top and the bottom. For the sides I needed 2 pieces of 4 1/4" x 3/4".  I have colored the visible edges of the cardboard pieces and the matchboxes with distress paint (black soot).

Glue the cardboard pieces on the top, the bottom and the sides of the base. So that the edges look a bit neater, I covered them with black construction paper.

For the back you will need a stopper for the drawers, so you can't push them out the back. For that I used black construction paper also.

I then decorated the base a little bit with pattered paper

The sides of the cash register

Next I painted the side parts of the cash register and cut them ouft of my cardboard. You will need two of them. Mark from the bottom on the right side at 3/4". I layed a circle with 5 1/4" diameter on the two red marked points and traced around it. So I got the curve as I wanted it to be. Let the curve run straight the last 3/4" on the right bottom side.

Paint the edges black.

5

The front and the back side and the assemblage

You need cardboard in these dimensions:

For the back side 4 1/4" x 4 1/2", for the display part 1 1/4" x 4 1/8" and for the curved part 4 1/4" x 6" (it is a little bit longer than you use it, but you can cut overhang away when it is assembled). Paint the edges black.

Unfortunately, I no longer know exactly how I put the cash register together. But I think I hinged the pieces with stripes of black construction paper from the inside. You can watch several tutorials on Youtube how to do this. Sam Calcott from Mixed up craft shows this very often in her tutorials. For example this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcMCki3IejM

I also attached the cash register to the base with paper hinges.

The lid with a slit

For the lid you need a piece of cardboard 4 1/4" x 1 1/4". Make a slit in the middle for the paper role. I don't know the word in English, it is the paper where you get your bill from. I used it for a birthday greeting and on the rest everyone signed their names. The lid is only attached with a hinge to the front side and can be opened and closed.

7

Decorate everything with patterned paper

I have uses a 6" x 6" paper pad from the Industrial line by Studio Light for the vintage look.

Finally, the Buttons

For the buttons I have used little wooden spools and gave them a rusty look with Rusty Paper from Viva Decor. Glue little circles with numbers on the top an glue the spools on the curved part.

I hope you can follow the instructions and have fun while crafting :-)
