Fun in the sun ☀️

Finally showing off this dress in the sun that I made a while back 😃 it is the popular McCall’s #m7969 with a hacked ruffle around the neck edge in a beautiful seersucker from @fabricsgalorelondon in a size L. I love the oversized easy going feel to this dress and will definitely be making a few more with different hacks in the future 🙌🏻

//Top is #m7969 in size XS in a crinkly orange gingham.
I just had a yard of fabric to make this top (and I use every single bit of it, @makingfeelsgood is my witness - speaking of true friendship, we did this project together in Santa Cruz, where Julie lives). Because of the limited yardage, the skirt part is less wide and shorter than the pattern suggests. 132 cm for the whole circumference X 20 cm hem included. In terms of construction, there are no particular difficulties, just a lot of gathering and understanding McCall's instruction that doesn't make sense for me sometimes, so I trust my gut. Like cutting a fabric piece on the bias, then interfacing it... If someone can help me on this one because I just skipped this part! I wanted a clean inside, so I finished stitching my binding by hand (it was on the instructions).
I bought my copy, but you can have it free if you subscribe to Minerva's newsletter.

About last night…
It was Greenslopes Hospital 80 Year Ball and it was fun to get dressed up and celebrate.

I used a long standing favorite pattern M7969 and hacked it to make it a wrap dress. So happy with how it turned out.

I am in love with the dress and also my shoes. The shoes may have been removed for the dance floor and I might feel like a cripple today- but worth it.

McCalls M7969 never disappoints 🙌🏻 I am over the moon with this one! This might be my most practical make of the year but it’s also so pretty 😍 I’ve been trying to make things that are more wearable in my daily wardrobe and this is definitely a solid start, excuse me while I live in this for the rest of winter. The only thing I forgot to add was pockets! 🍂

Straight off the sewing machine and out to the work Christmas party 💫

This is my #m7969hack in a size S. I cut the front piece on the fold and changed the neckline ✨

Finally using up the last of my fabric stash! Polyester lurex chiffon and viscose for the lining from @selfmade_com - was absolutely hideous to sew with… but very cute and swishy 🤩

Made this a couple of months ago but didn’t get a chance to take photos before I left for Spain and Portugal. It had quite a few outings on that trip and was very easy to wash and wear. Like many others, I have found the neckline has some pesky gaping issues but luckily there are lots of reviews available with tips on how to fix that. Next one will be better. The most worn me-made of the year. Took this dress to holiday in Jogjakarta and look how gorgeous is the guest house we stayed in. Guys, if you ever find yourself in or planning to visit Jogjakarta, please check out @thechendela

Disclaimer: this place is run by a lovely couple, dear friends of mine @bimaadhitya and @mrs.ninbo but I can vouch for their hospitality.. ❤️ Such a cozy place with the traditional Jogja house design. You’ll love the aesthetic! Oh, not to mention the on-site @sapulucoffee to complete the stay!

Is this my second M7969? Why yes it is!

Thank you to @harmerandhuff who approached me to try out their fabric! It’s a stunning Eglantine & Zoe viscose crepe fabric in green zebra.

I can’t even begin to describe this glorious fabric! It is so drapey yet very easy to handle and has the right kind of medium weight! Loved making this slightly modified version of view A. I am going to live in this dress this summer!

One of my all time favorite makes, the cult classic #m7969. I call this my Christian Girl Autumn dress 😂 and I absolutely love how it looks and feels! Made in a lovely secondhand cotton linen (I think lol)!

And another one 😅

This is my fave #m7969 pattern with two absolutely stunning embroidered fabrics from @sanskruti_store 🤍

They only had a metre left of the coloured embroidered wildflowers and I'm so glad I found a way to incorporate it into a dress, because obviously dresses are my favourite thing to make 😊

Love the subtle golden sequins and threads. This was originally too short as I forgot to cut the skirt longer (I always need to do this!) and I spent a very long time creating a gathered frill from cream fabric for bottom, but then it just felt too 'frilly' so I spent another good amount of time unpicking and found this cream lace at Ajay's which lengthened it just enough to wear and be comfortable. Phew!

I highly recommend this pattern for beginners and there's a great online video tutorial by @yoursara_k to help. 🤓

My aesthetic is rainbow butterfly.

Quilt Festival Lessons Learned:

  1. Much more fun with friends!!
  2. Eat a hearty lunch and hydrate!!!
  3. Don’t wear a dress made of gauze if you don’t want random people coming up to pet you 😵‍💫
