A guide to Pilot's Frixion Erasable pen
The Pilot FriXion range revolutionised the world of gel ink rollerball pens when it launched back in 2007. Thanks to the patented thermo-sensitive ink it allows the user to cleanly write, erase the ink by friction and rewrite - all with the same pen!
You can simply rub out your mistakes with the eraser stud and watch the ink disappear as if by magic! The unique gel ink responds to the heat generated by the rubbing out, and lets you write over your mistake immediately with the same pen.
Over the years Pilot Pen have seen an increase in FriXion pens being utilised for more than just writing. Sewists started to use them on fabrics, sketching sewing patterns for cutting, marking pleats, notches, drawing out embroidery designs, marking dots for pleating, being able to make fine, precise lines that completely disappear after ironing. Pen markings erase with friction or heat!
Simply take an iron to your fabric and watch the ink disappear. If you don’t have an iron, you can also throw your piece into the dryer or use a hair dryer to make the ink go away.
Be sure to test the fabric you plan to use. You can always stitch over any markings you don’t want seen.
Note: if you don't wash the fabric there is always a risk to see the ink reappear if stored in a cold place (-10C°).
Pilot FriXion pens are made of at least 50% of recycled plastic material (excluding refills and product packaging) in order to help save the planet's resources. The pens are also refillable making them more economical and respectful of the environment.
From the manufacturing through to the end of the product life, it is estimated that buying this pen and refilling it 3 times reduces the total environmental impact of the pen by -71% compared to buying an additional 3 new pens. A small gesture can make a significant difference in the fight against climate change!
